Welcome to Summersun Montessori School in Mount Vernon, WA
Summersun Montessori School is a non-profit, private preschool, kindergarten, and child care center for children ages two to six years old. We are located in Mount Vernon, WA but our families live all across Skagit County, including Arlington, Sedro Woolley, Burlington, Conway, Big Lake, and Stanwood.
Summersun is proud to harness the power of the Montessori Method that was founded in the 1800s by Dr. Maria Montessori. The philosophical foundation of the Montessori approach is based on the premise that education should be an aid to life. In order to develop their physical, intellectual and spiritual powers to the fullest, children must have freedom – a freedom to be achieved through order and self-discipline.

Curriculum
We offer a Pre-Primary Curriculum for children ages 2.5-3.5, and a Primary Curriculum for preschool and kindergarten children ages 3-6. The Pre-Primary program is built upon the belief that learning should begin before a formal preschool, so Pre-Primary students work to build a foundation for their future education.
The Primary class focuses on practical life exercises, in addition to the traditional academic lessons of math, language, geography, art, and science. Montessori students have a broad spectrum of experiences during their time at Summersun, from learning to read and write to studying the development of butterflies grown in their classroom.

Child Care
Summersun also offers a child care program during the summer months, which provides educational experiences outside of the academic year. The summer program is geared toward existing Summersun students ages 2.5-6 years old and mixes learning opportunities with exciting summer adventures.
Hours
Our school is open every weekday from 7:00 am to 5:30 pm but families have the option to enroll for the timeframe that works best for the child and the family*:
Extended Day: 8:30 am – 2:30 pm
Full Time: 7:00 am – 5:30 pm

*Children are not required to be at school during all hours. Parents are welcome to drop off and pick up their children at any point within their selected timeframe.

Fundraisers
Summersun Montessori is supported, in part, by community participation in two fundraisers. Wreaths and poinsettias are sold during the winter holiday season. Fresh flower baskets are sold in the spring time. If you would like to be notified when these fundraisers are underway, please contact us. Your participation is greatly appreciated, and supports educational developments at Summersun Montessori.
Parent Involvement
As a non-profit, we rely on the support of our parent community to keep our school running at its best. Summersun parents not only make up the bulk of our board of directors, but also volunteer an average of 20 hours per year to the school, participate in our two yearly fundraisers, and donate the equivalent of a month’s worth of tuition as a tax-deductable gift to the school. Summersun parents rock!
